Our apartments occupy the entire “secondo piano” [equivalent to an American third floor] of a 14th century palazzo built by a wealthy merchant, from whose ancestors we purchased the apartments many years ago.  The ground floor of the palazzo reputedly housed for a period of time the painting studio of Raffaello.  The palazzo adjoins Piazza Pasquino, which is one block from Piazza Navona, one of the most famous and beautiful piazzas in Rome’s center. Piazza Navona features three Bernini fountains and one of the most beautiful churches in Rome [the cupola of which can be seen from one of our apartments]. We are also four blocks from the Campo dei Fiori public market, and within 15 to 20 minute walking to the Spanish Steps [“Spagna”], the Forum, Coliseum, Vatican, and most of the other major historic sites of the center.

A beautiful walk nearby is along the Tiber River to the Piazza Popolo and then through Borghese Gardens.

Our street, via del Governo Vecchio, has become famous for its small clothing boutiques, wine bars, and excellent restaurants, as reported by an article in the New York Times. The palazzo is an easy 30 minute taxi ride from the airport, 10 minutes from the main train station.
